The bulk of this course will help you
learn how to play with others, while you learn basic back-up
skills and licks. We will learn some standard bluegrass songs and
use them as a setting to delve into basic back-up licks, (walking
from one chord to the next, etc.). We will have a cursory look at
the 3 basic chord positions for those that may not know them,
therefore knowing the basic chord positions is helpful but not
essential.
We will also look at left hand technique
and how to achieve a good hammer-on and pull-off. Throughout,
we will take licks that you already know or have just learned in
the course and try to put them to use in all the songs and chord
progressions.
Also, in this course we will discuss ear
training, starting with a brief discussion on scales and a formula
to find any scale. We will then proceed to intervals and how to
teach yourself to recognize them. This will take up approximately
one session and is indispensable for those at any level that want
to learn how to make up your own solo in a song that you may not
have not previously played. Don't let this scare you... it is
easy, but one of the most overlooked areas in the course of most
players development. And remember:
"Don't practice till you get it right,
keep practicing until you never get it wrong".
