Instrument - Bluegrass Licks Mandolin
Room 3
Friday & Saturday Morning -
10:30am - Noon
Friday & Saturday Afternoon -
2:30pm - 4:00pm
This class is for the mandolinist who wants to expand their knowledge of the
fretboard and the various fingering methods that can be used in bluegrass music.
It can be fun and challenging to try different variations of a melody while
still keeping the solo tasteful. With different melodic variations many
bluegrass licks can be used to come in and out of phrases. We will focus on the
right and left hand techniques that can be used in conjunction with each other.
The right hand styles of playing will touch on the Monroe style, cross picking,
alternate string, and single string techniques. The left hand techniques will
include but will not be limited to hammer-ons, slides, fingering positions, and
double stops.
As
you are aware, this will be a class room setting, but I will work one-on-one as
much as I can during the camp. Students should have a basic
understanding of how to pick some standard bluegrass or fiddle tunes. Please
bring a list of anything you want to learn or improve upon during this class.
Feel free to bring a note pad, a pen, and a recording device.
I am looking forward to seeing
you all there.
