In this course, we’ll take some bluegrass standards and
break
them down to ‘find your voice’ singing a lead, tenor
or
baritone part.(and maybe bass if you’ve got the range.)
Some quick and painless music theory will help you to identify your
vocal range and match your tone and pitch with the parts in some
3-part
and 4-part bluegrass harmony standards. We’ll look at how
to
take a song and go about developing good bluegrass harmony
parts for some old bluegrass favorites. We’ll look at why some songs seem
impossible to harmonize and how to pick the right ones for your voice. Harmony
Singing to back certain chords and chord
progressions, and using Nashville Numbers, triads, inversions,
7ths, and flatted notes will be in your bag of musical tricks by the end
of
the course. You’ll take home the written harmony parts to 6 bluegrass
standards. What’s more, you’ll be able to figure out how to sing
those bluegrass parts yourself. Familiarity with classical music
notation or sight reading is NOT required.
Bring your instrument , if you play one.
