Instrument - Fingerpicking Guitar

Room 6

Friday & Saturday  Morning -     10:30am - Noon

Friday & Saturday  Afternoon-     2:30pm - 4:00 pm

All the classes assume that you at least know a dozen chords and the Kumbaya strum so that you can play along with simple songs on the guitar at the least (in other words, none of this is for people who have never picked up a guitar). Also, none of these classes are rocket science either. I try in all of my class teaching to make them accessible and interesting to just about everybody regardless of playing level. If pressed, I'd list all of these as intermediate to advanced, but I'd almost rather not have a level rating at all so that people aren't scared off by it. None of these classes require people to have to play. They don't even have to bring a guitar. They are lectures that are equally entertaining and enlightening with bits and pieces of ideas followed by actual tab and charts that they can take home and work on.

Classes include:

Playing Fingerstyle Guitar

Hear and learn the advantages to playing fingerstyle guitar. Discover how the right hand works, learning the fingering rules,

picking patterns and licks that make this style so compelling. Begin to develop accompaniment and solo fingerpicking arrangements.   [Includes TAB]

Understanding Music Theory For Guitar

Don’t stab around in the dark anymore. Learn how scales and keys work, how chords are constructed and named, how to begin adding more colorful chords to your arrangements, and more. [Includes Materials]

 Arranging a Chet Atkins Tune

Chet Atkins was undoubtedly the overall central figure in the development

and popularization of fingerstyle guitar. His muted ‘thumbpicking’ bass and melody style led the way for thousands of guitarists to get involved in playing fingerstyle.

Learn how Chet did it and begin the process of playing a Chet Atkins arrangement yourself.  [TAB Included]

 Arranging a Swing Tune

Swing music started with a jazzy, syncopated rhythm, added particularly colorful chords and was known for striking, memorable melodies. Swing, and

it’s counterpart, Western Swing was infectious then - and it is infectious now.

Learn how to swing on the guitar.

            [TAB Included]
